Sayyed Abbas al-Lavandi, who is in charge of the Astan’s school branches, said that currently Astan has 68 schools in Iraq and other countries.

He said more than 10,000 men and women are either studying in those schools or have graduated from them.

Lavandi noted that the schools are managed and overseen by a branch of the Religious Affairs Department that was launched in 2014 under the supervision of Sheikh Ahmed al-Safi.

According to the official, some of the students, including those from Europe, the US, Australia, Iran, Turkey, India and Arab countries of the Persian Gulf region take the schools’ classes online.

Denmark and Indonesia are two countries that host the branches of the schools and have more than 200 male and female students, he stated.

There are also demands from Arab, Muslim and non-Muslim countries for establishment of the schools’ branches, he went on to say.
